INFRASTRUCTURE & FACILITIES
The sprawling college campus at Vivek Vihar is spread over an area of over 10 Acres which includes 3939 sq metres of built up area & 5.2 acres of open space for garden and sports facilities. The teaching- learning process is facilitated in 35 class rooms, 12 tutorial rooms, two specialized laboratories, three state -of-the-art computer centers with high speed Internet connectivity, a seminar room, conference room, an auditorium and a fully automated library. The entire college campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The college has a synthetic track (200 mts.), the first of its kind in Delhi University. The college also provides residential facilities for the Principal, teaching faculty and non teaching staff .
The College Library is well-stocked and fully Computerized using LSEase software. It has approximately 65000 Books covering almost all aspects of Arts, Commerce, Humanities, Science and even for Pleasure Reading and motivation. It regularly subscribes to about 47 Periodicals including 10 daily newspapers in Hindi and English. Library is wifi enabled and Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is available in the library. The library has a comfortable Reading Room spread over 3 Floors with sitting capacity of 180 users. It also has a separate section called faculty lounge to provide faculty to do their research work. The library also has a reference section and Book Bank Section consisting of core textbooks, which are issued to deserving students for the complete semester. The scheme is opened twice in an academic calendar.
Various Services offered by the library are circulation, consultation, reference, inter library loan, access to e-resources and online support to encourage teaching – learning process. Access to e-resources is through DULS, NList, and Delnet. Millions of e-resources are accessible remotely to the faculty as well as students through them.
Other than that, the library also keeps disseminating information of other open access authentic resources like NDL, Google scholar, Shodhganga, and e-gyankosh of IGNOU. This helps the academic fraternity as well as students.
Library also helped college faculty in registering for remote access of DULS e-resources. It extends its Current Awareness services by providing Table of Content, sending E- Mails and Instant Messaging System. We also organize virtual orientation sessions for information literacy. The tutorials are also available on its website and Youtube Channel. Library has its own social media accounts (FB/ Instagram/ Twitter/ YouTube) to provide SDI services. Library also generated QR Codes of its various social media tools. Library also facilitate checking of research papers for plagiarism.
The college events are publicized through library social media and also streamed live. We also have an internship of content writing for library social media. The library remains open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. It remains closed on Saturday, Sunday and other Gazetted holidays.

Computer Labs – There are four labs in the college with 150 terminals and Internet facilities for the students and teachers. These labs are also equipped with teaching aids such as LCD Projectors and Scanners. The College wants all its students to be conversant with modern learning aids. The entire college campus is Wi-Fi enabled.
The Psychology Laboratory is well equipped with different types of apparatus for conducting experiments, such as electronic memory apparatus, tachistoscope, mirror drawing apparatus etc. A range of psychological tests is also available in the laboratory, for example, personality tests, intelligence tests, aptitude tests, attitude and value scales etc. There is also a proposal to provide a second psychology laboratory in the near future.
The Food Technology Laboratory is equipped with the latest gadgets for students to perform various lab-oriented practicals. The students are provided with expert skills in bakery and preservation of food, so that they can compete with other professionals in the industry. Keeping in mind the changing demands of the food market, several low cost new food products are also developed every year.
The Music Room is equipped with a variety of instruments to facilitate the students in their practical work and hence equip them with skills of better co-ordination with different instruments. The students learn Hindustani vocal music and get a chance to perform at various college and inter-college functions.
The Sports facilities in the college include a large playground. Intensive training is imparted under expert guidance. Each year, students of Vivekananda College achieve notable distinctions, and many of them are selected for All India Inter- University and National tournaments. Facilities are provided for Athletics, Hockey, Table- Tennis, Volley Ball, Kabaddi and Cross Country. The college has a synthetic track of 200 mts., approved by the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs. Now the college has the facility of AstroTurf mini Hockey ground.
Vivekananda Auditorium has a seating capacity of 700. It is fully air-conditioned and its light and sound system are currently being revamped. The Auditorium hosts various academic and cultural events of the college and east Delhi community. It also encourages well-known cultural groups to hold their programmes for the benefit of the students and community.
Sharda Hall: This air-conditioned facility can accommodate up to 150 students and is frequently used for seminars, talks and lectures by external professionals. It has an LCD projector and is also used for screening film shows by the Film Society of the college.
Canteen: The recently refurnished canteen is the hub of out-of-class discussions and exchange of information. It provides snacks, drinks and lunch at subsidized rates.
Bank: Banking services are provided by the Vivek Vihar branch of Canara Bank through an Extension Counter in the College. Depositing of fees etc.is done through this counter. Students can also open individual accounts with the bank.
Medical Facilities: There is a Medical Room in the College which provides first aid. An Allopathic doctor is available for consultation, for three hours, four times a week. An Ayurvedic doctor gives consultation twice a week, while a Homoeopathic doctor visits twice a week. A counselor is available to take care of mental health of students.
The Counselling Cell was established keeping in view the rising mental health issues faced by students. In order to help students to understand different ways of dealing with mental health problems, the Counselling Cell provides counselling to students and organized various webinars. Students got to learn a lot about dealing with psychological and emotional problems that one may face in day-to-day life, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Co.
Note: Delhi University’s ‘Population Education Resource Center’ provides Helpline Counselling Services on HIV, AIDS, Sexuality, Drug Abuse and other adolescent issues, for students. Awareness is provided by doctors and trained counselors through peer group training programmes. These services as well as learning material, developed by the center, may be availed of through the College.
Note: The Department for the Welfare of SC/ST/OBC/Minorities provides hostel facility for boys and girls studying in the post metric or higher classes in government institutions at the Sanskar Ashram Complex, Dilshad Garden, Delhi-93.
Students’ Information Bulletin Board displays information regarding co-curricular activities taking place in the College and other educational institutions. The Board also displays important notices and students are required to keep themselves up to date on College affairs.
Identity Card: Every student of the College will be provided with an Identity Card after her admission has been confirmed. This Card should always remain in her possession and should be produced as and when asked for. In case of its loss, the student will be required to get a duplicate one by making a payment of Rs.100/- and furnishing a copy of her photograph.
Fee Concession & Students’ Aid Fund
Fee Concession is granted to very needy and deserving students. Application for fee concession, on the prescribed form (available with the cashier), must be submitted to the office on the dates announced for the purpose.
The Students’ Aid Fund has been established for helping needy and deserving students, in various forms, e.g. giving them examination fee, conveyance, medical aid etc. Application for assistance under this scheme must reach the college office by the dates notified for the purpose.
Established Systems and procedures
There are well developed procedures for this where all stakeholders are involved. The procedures involve labelling all college files, stock register maintenance, signing of annual maintenance contracts and delegating responsibilities for actual maintenance/utilization of college facilities. Students are given proper instructions for usage of the equipment, books etc. All the purchases and repair & maintenance expenditure have been made as per GFR 2017 and its amendments. Central purchase and stock verification committee ensures that purchases follow the right procedures and that stock verification takes place periodically. Library maintenance is carried out by librarian and her team who ensures good condition of books, regular book binding, and removal of old books; laboratories are regularly maintained by the Laboratory attendant and lab assistants; computers, UPS, Softwares and LCDs are maintained by technicians, Lab Assistants, and TICs; safai karamcharis and Lab attendants clean rooms/labs; Director of Physical Education, Sports committee and support staff look after the sports facilities while gardeners are assigned for the upkeep of the gardens. The college has a building subcommittee constituted by the Governing Body of college which recommends repairs and expansion of college infrastructure.
ICT enable tools
- ICT Tools: The teachers use ICT tools including computers, interactive whiteboards, and several software. Institute premises are Wifi enabled with a bandwidth upto 300 MBPS. The latest Softwares are used by many departments such as maths and computer sciences.
- Teaching pedagogies: Google classroom and Zoom are used to conduct online lectures, share resources and conduct internal exams and assignments (when physical classes are not possible such as during pandemic). Pedagogy is mainly participative in these online classes. Teachers also use PowerPoint presentations, lecture recordings, uploading on google drive, and audio/video aids. Google Forms are used for taking feedback, research-based activities, maintaining attendance etc. All webinars, FDPs, workshops, DU exams, outreach programmes have been conducted through ICT so that teaching never breaks down even during exceptional circumstances (during pandemic)
- Upgrading ICT skills: Several webinars, as well as FDPs on MS tools, are organized by college committees.
- Online library resources: College library has IP access as well as remote access to e-resources of DULS, membership of Braille library of DULS and N-List is renewed every year.
- Overcoming challenges: Even though most software is in English yet Hindi and Sanskrit departments have adopted this new technology and could be completely online during the pandemic. ICT facilities are continuously upgraded and college laptops are made available for issuing.
